All you need to know about kids’ sleepsuits
Sleeping bags for babies and children are gaining more and more ground and this is not accidental. So, let’s take things from the beginning! A sleeping bag is a garment that replaces the blanket. It has a special design, looks like a bodysuit and is normally worn on the baby. A sleeping bag is extremely useful in winter, because it solves many of the problems that arise during sleep.
How to choose my baby’s sleeping bag
Choosing the right sleeping bag depends on several factors. The main one is its safe and qualitative composition. Safe materials, especially cotton, correct construction specifications, comfortable opening in the neck are what will give your baby the right temperature, but will not limit his movements and comfort.
Another one important factor in choosing a sleeping bag is its thickness. The thickness of the sleeping bag is measured in tog (Thermal overlap Grade). Tog measures the heat, which develops inside the sleeping bag. Depending on the temperature of the room and the season, we choose the corresponding sleeping bag. In the winter months, togs from 2 to 3 are the ideal.
What should the infant or child wear under the sleeping bag
There are two factors that determine what the baby will wear under the sleeping bag: the temperature of the room and the thickness of the sleeping bag (tog). In room temperatures from 14-16O with a sleeping bag of 3 tog we choose to wear baby bodysuit and pajamas. As the temperature rises and the tog decreases, we also remove the inner clothing.
However, it is always good to keep in mind that each child is different. This means that you should check the temperature of the child with your hand, to be sure that it does not get cold or hot. A good indicator is the baby’s hands. If these are cold, you should probably add a piece of clothing under the sleeping bag.
Benefits of sleeping bags
- You avoid the risk of the baby getting confused with the covers or it’scovered up, which might be quite dangerous.
- Sleeping bags regulate the temperature of the baby and keeps it steady as it wears it. This means that during the night, where the baby can wake up and move, it will not be uncovered. Its temperature is regulated all night long!
- You avoid the night “uncovering” of the baby. Wearing a sleeping bag, thebaby is not exposed by its blanket and its not at the risk of getting cold.
- Regardless of all the physical advantages of a sleeping bag, it also contributes in psychological way. It helps the baby to fall asleep. When sleeping bag is associated with sleep, it will help baby feel security & warmth. So, it could be a great part of your sleep routine. Even when you change location, maybe on vacation or in other conditions, sleeping bag will help your child to switch easily to sleep.
